Fire Surround

Fire Surround

This was a commission for a bespoke fire surround.

The client didn't want the fire surround to project to far into the room. The uprights and cross piece were made from two thicknesses of board and the mantle piece from another board. Two corbels were made by laser cutting a profile template from 5mm plywood.

The template was used with a router to cut two the corbel profiles. These profiles were glued to another piece of wood, routed, and sanded before fixing to the underside of the mantle piece. Once fully assembled and all glue set I arranged a convenient time to install the fire surround. The surround was screwed to the wall and screw heads covered with wood plugs.

The fire surround was left unpainted to allow the client to paint in their preferred finish.
